International banking group providing services to individuals, businesses and institutional clients. HSBC’s UK help page explicitly distinguishes recurring payments to businesses from transfers between a customer’s own accounts. It describes UK current-account VRPs, with approval through the HSBC app or online banking.
For the wider payment model, read our commercial VRP introduction. This profile separates HSBC’s historical participation from provider-specific technical availability.

Involvement in UKPI
HSBC appears in OBL’s 2 May 2025 initial funding announcement ↗ and UKPI’s 2 June 2026 founding shareholder announcement ↗. These dated records establish development funding and founding shareholding. They do not certify every account connection today.
Current commercial VRP availability
Modulr’s commercial VRP guide lists HSBC as available. Check the provider’s current capability and onboarding requirements before offering this bank at checkout.
Supported accounts and banking brands
HSBC’s UK help page explicitly distinguishes recurring payments to businesses from transfers between a customer’s own accounts. It describes UK current-account VRPs, with approval through the HSBC app or online banking.
First direct’s own guidance also describes domestic recurring payments for goods and services from its 1st Account. That is a separate brand source, not proof of First direct access through Modulr. First direct Open Banking guidance ↗.
Current-account recurring payments described by the bank; individual product eligibility not publicly confirmed. Business, joint and savings accounts must be checked separately. A group or bank name alone does not confirm them.
Customer authorisation and controls
In the general cVRP journey, the customer selects a bank, authenticates with it, approves the receiving organisation and limits, then allows eligible payments within that permission. The customer can manage or withdraw the permission. This general explanation is not a claim that every HSBC screen behaves identically. OBL’s cVRP and consent guide ↗.
HSBC says customers approve the arrangement through its app or online banking and can cancel the instruction. Its description separates business payments from sweeping.
Cancelling payment permission does not cancel the bill, contract or amount owed. Bank-specific commercial consent expiry and amendment rules were not confirmed in the reviewed material.
Relevant uses and payment limitations
Explore the sector context for utilities, financial services, e-money, government, charities and rail. Sector inclusion does not mean every use is enabled for HSBC.
Commercial VRP is distinct from sweeping between a customer’s own accounts. Provider, bank and scheme terms determine access, limits and support. No universal HSBC commercial VRP fee, refund timetable or dispute procedure was verified here. Confirm those terms with the provider and bank.
Payment permission is separate from payment success. Businesses should check payment status and handle failed collections, expired or revoked consent and customer queries. Do not assume Direct Debit protections or card chargeback rules apply unchanged.
